What to see in Anacapri

What to see in Anacapri, Capri’s younger sister

It’s not just there Capri. The island is divided into two and its companion of naturalistic beauties located in the province of Naples is Anacapri. It is a small municipality but, like its sister, it offers suggestive places and environments, bright and full of leisure opportunities such as Villa San Michelethe Blue Caveil Mount Solaro, Town Thursday and the lighthouse of Punta Carena.

Old Town

Starting from Capri, reaching the municipality described and its wonders is simple. The direct bus leaves every quarter of an hour and takes just ten minutes to reach the historic center of Anacapri. If you prefer a different route, the bus can be taken at a later time, after enjoying the ride on the funicular starting from Marina Grande.

The historic center is ideal for a walk immersed in the peace and colors and scents of Southern Italy, getting lost in the narrow, whitewashed streets to reach Piazza Boffe can be a fascinating diversion from the lively worldliness of Capri. Particularly relevant and representative of the simple and elegant beauty of this location are the Red Housea small permanent museum that collects paintings that tell the story of Capri and the monuments found at the bottom of the Blue Grotto and the baroque churches of San Michele and Santa Sofia.

Villa San Michele

Spectacular Villa San Michelerebuilt on the foundations of an ancient Roman villa, the building takes the name and architectural styles of a medieval chapel of the same name in Phoenician Staircase. It overlooks the sea directly, showing the visitor an expanse of breathtaking blue waters. The building was the subject of countless and laborious restorations and inspired one of the first editorial bestsellers of the 1930s. The title is The story of San Michelewritten by Axel Munthepublished by Garzanti and still available for anyone interested in reading it.

The Blue Grotto

If the marine beauty of Anacapri appears immense from the outside, from the inside of the Blue Cave it is spectacular and can only be entered by boat. 25 meters wide and 60 meters long, the Blue Grotto amazes with the intense translucent color of its waters. The shape of the narrow and low entrance makes both swimming and swimming inside the cave itself dangerous, both of which are prohibited.

Mount Solarium

In Anacapri it is possible to go from the sea to the mountains. Even if it does not exceed 586 meters in altitude, the Mount Solarium offers a varied natural landscape and, in certain points, requires the skills of a moderately expert hiker, if you want to reach the top on foot and therefore without using the chair lift which starts from Victoria Square.

Town Thursday it is a small fortress, of inestimable archaeological value, from which it is possible to admire the entire Gulf of Naples.
