Rokeby Manor: Temidden van de Groenen

Rokeby Manor: Amidst the Greens

Nestled in the upper reaches of Mussoorie on Landour , Rokeby Manormakes its presence felt in the midst of untouched nature and a peaceful environment. The two acre estate is very close to Char Dukan and St. Paul’s Church and acts as a perfect retreat for all age groups. Managed by Mars Enterprise, this heritage haven has had a very interesting history. Built in 1840 by Captain G. N. Cauthy and continued through the properties of Lt. Col. Reilly, who also had Ralston, another residency in Mussoorie and Frederick ‘Pahari’ Wilson, a controversial adventurer and entrepreneur, who inspired Rudyard Kipling’s classic story, ‘The Man Who Would Be King, and a Few More Hands , before it was finally turned into a hotel. Imagine sitting on the open balcony of the Emily restaurantview of the lush green mountains and enjoy a cup of hot tea along with some delicious cookies while listening to the story of this property. Sounds good, doesn’t it? As you enter the rooms you feel like you have stepped back in time… they have been restored to their original 19th century decor – attention has been paid to very small details. Apart from being very cozy and comfortable, each room has its own unique character and is named in a very interesting way, taking into account the accommodation’s close connection with the nature and flora of the place. The Rhododendron Suite, the Rose Suite and the Chestnut Room are good examples of this. Apart from this, there is a meeting room that can accommodate 40 people, a salon where you can relax with a quick haircut or a nice spa massage. There is an open space in a quintessentially English garden style with flowers nearby called The Tea Garden which offers a view of the valley that will make you feel right on top of the world.
