Where to sleep in Flores

L’Ostello The Friends it’s a small hostel in the center of Flores island, near Tikal in Guatemala. The hostel is located in this small village where pastel colors dominate and the buildings are all colorful and well kept.

The island of Flores is located on a lake where you can swim and from whose square you can dine eating tacos or burittos while admiring the sunset. The Los Amigos hostel has a patio where a sort of small jungle has been created with swings, hammocks, tables and chairs for all guests. The hostel also offers bar and restaurant service with vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, tour service and organizes shuttles to travel to the main destinations: Palenque, Tulum Belize, Chetumal, Lanquin and Guatemala City airport, as well as obviously a minibus to reach the ruins of Tikal with guide service or transport only (60 quetzales return at pre-established times). A bed in a six-person dormitory with en-suite bathroom costs money 50 quetzales (4.50 euros) 35 quetzales per bed in case you prefer an outdoor dormitory.

The hearty breakfast costs around 35 quetzales and you can choose between fruit and yogurt, typical breakfast with beans, egg, bread, cream and fruit and many other options. If you want to save money you can always go to the bakery where you can buy all kinds of sweets.The hostel is clean and well maintained, the staff is always friendly and willing to talk to guests. The hostel has wifi free, computer to connect to the internet, it provides sheets but not towels.

Near the hostel there is a small square with a basketball court, there you can find a Tienda where you can eat really cheap typical food. 15quetzales (1.33 euros) for a burrito, a cake (a sandwich filled with everything!), tacos and a liquado (i.e. fruit smoothie with milk or water) or a coke. I highly recommend trying the set called COMBO in the 3 different combinations: Combo 1 – Combo 2 – Combo 3.
